I denna uppsats belyses identitetsutvecklingen hos de manliga huvudpersonerna i Mikael Niemis romaner Skjut apelsinen (2010) och Populärmusik från Vittula (2000). Identitetsutvecklingen, som emellanåt angrips ur ett genusperspektiv, åskådliggörs utifrån skolgången, ur en språklig synvinkel samt innefattar skapande fritidsintressen (poesi och musik). Analysen visar att skolornas kulturella klimat bidrar i formandet av huvudpersonernas identiteter. Två centrala men olika lärarpersonligheter framträder: den ena stöttande och uppmuntrande, den andra nedlåtande och ofta oförmögen att inspirera. I Skjut apelsinen idealiserar den språkligt engagerade huvudpersonen ett nyskapande skriftspråk, medan ett sådant engagemang saknas hos den språkligt kluvne huvudpersonen i Populärmusik från Vittula.

Jag iakttog och dokumenterade den initialt kra?vande processen att komma iga?ng, men ocksa? ka?nslan av att det lossnade efter att avgo?rande beslut hade fattats. Den syftar a?ven till att underso?ka hur va?l amato?rsa?ngarnas ko?rledare uppfattar dessa anledningar och om det finns en samsyn kring vad som a?r viktigt i ko?rverksamheten. Followers of three world religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam are waiting for the Messiah. Muslims are even waiting for aspiritual leader al-Mahdi. Two different persons claimed the title of al-Mahdi, at the end of the nineteenth century. Theyappeared almost at the same time, at the totally different places of the earth, with a completely different message and underthe rule of the British colonial power. The aim of the study is to compare the both religious figures, Mirza Ghulam Ahmadfrom India and Muhammad Ahmad from Sudan regarding their different messages, to illustrate the social, political andreligious factors that lead to the entirely different profile and image of these two men and how their organizations havedeveloped after their death up till today.

Hip-hop music has long been an expressive medium used by individuals from marginalized areas in Sweden to address social issues and shape their identities. Through interviews with Swedish hip-hop artists and analysis of lyrics, this bachelor thesis explores the self-expression of the artists and how they express their views of society. It focuses on how social problems are expressed and understood, as well as on how the artists view the depiction of contemporary Swedish hip-hop music in media. Additionally, the study investigates how hip-hop artists themselves perceive the significance of their music lyrics. Furthermore, I explore the impact of music on the identity of hip-hop artists from marginalized areas, as perceived by the artists themselves. To gain a comprehensive understanding, the ethnographic study employs semi-structured interviews and participant observation with four non-ethnically Swedish hiphop artists who live or have grown up in disadvantaged areas in Sweden.
